The Patriots added 10 new faces via last week’s NFL Draft, reshaping their depth chart for the second time this offseason.

They loaded up at linebacker and tight end — the two biggest areas of need — and solidified the safety spot, but the roster still has some holes.

So where do things stand after the draft and free agency? Let’s dive into a May 1 reset:

Departed: Tom Brady, Cody Kessler

Under contract: Jarrett Stidham

Free agent addition: Brian Hoyer

Draft addition: None.

Undrafted free agents: Brian Lewerke, J’Mar Smith

Not adding a quarterback in the draft was a serious vote of confidence for Jarrett Stidham. Bill Belichick could still add a veteran free agent if the price is right — read: Dalton, Andy — but as it stands, Stidham is in the driver’s seat.

Running back/fullback

Retired: James Develin

Under contract: James White, Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead, Damien Harris, Brandon Bolden, Jakob Johnson

Free agent addition: Danny Vitale

Draft addition: Dalton Keene (3rd) could be used at H-back.

Undrafted free agent: J.J. Taylor

No surprise at running back: The Patriots didn’t add here because they they’ve got so many bodies under contract already. There will be a changing of the neck roll at fullback though, as Develin retired Monday and Vitale will slide into his spot on the depth chart.

Tight end

Retired: Ben Watson

Under contract: Ryan Izzo, Matt LaCosse

Free agent addition: None

Draft addition: Devin Asiasi (3rd), Dalton Keene (3rd)

Undrafted free agents: Jake Burt, RaShod Berry

The Patriots needed an upgrade at tight end badly, so they double-dipped in the draft accordingly. After an anemic 2019, almost anything Asiasi or Keene can provide at the position should be an upgrade.

Wide receiver

Departed: Phillip Dorsett

Under contract: Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry, Mohamed Sanu, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski

Free agent additions: Damiere Byrd, Marqise Lee

Draft addition: None

Undrafted free agents: Will Hastings, Sean Riley, Jeff Thomas, Isaiah Zuber

Though it was one of the deepest wide receiver drafts in ages, Belichick opted not to go that route. Safety Kyle Dugger (more on him later) could put Olszewski’s roster spot in jeopardy given his punt return ability. Low-risk signings Byrd and Lee will fight for spots here, as New England’s wide receiver depth chart is officially wide open. Safe to say Stidham wasn’t demanding a weapons upgrade.

Offensive line

Departed: Ted Karras

Franchise tagged: Joe Thuney

Under contract: Isaiah Wynn, Marcus Cannon, Shaq Mason, David Andrews, Korey Cunningham, James Ferentz, Hijalte Froholdt, Yodny Cajuste, Jermaine Eluemunor

Still in free agent limbo: Marshall Newhouse

Draft additions: Justin Onwenu (6th), Justin Herron (6th), Dustin Woodward (7th)

As it stands, the starting five are pretty straightforward: Wynn-Thuney-Andrews-Mason-Cannon. With Dante Scarnecchia’s retirement, it’ll be curious to see whether they can maintain his standard of excellence.

Departed: Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy, Elandon Roberts

Under contract: Dont’a Hightower, Ja’Whaun Bentley, Chase Winovich, Derek Rivers, Brandon King, Shilique Calhoun

Free agent addition: Brandon Copeland

Draft addition: Josh Uche (2nd), Anfernee Jennings (3rd), Cassh Maluia (6th)

Undrafted free agents: De’Jon Harris, Kyahva Tezino

After losing Collins and Van Noy in free agency, the Patriots used two Top 100 picks to replenish their pass rush. Winovich is the X-factor in this group heading into year two. If he continues his ascent, his snap count could soar.

Departed: None

Under contract: Stephon Gilmore, J.C. Jackson, Jason McCourty, Jonathan Jones, Joejuan Williams, Justin Bethel, D’Angelo Ross

Free agent addition: None

Draft addition: None

Undrafted free agents: Myles Bryant

This group went untouched and understandably so. The deepest position on the Patriots roster should remain that way in 2020.

Departed: Duron Harmon, Nate Ebner

Under contract: Patrick Chung, Terrence Brooks, Malik Grant, Devin McCourty

Free agent additions: Adrian Phillips, Cody Davis

Draft addition: Kyle Dugger (2nd)

In a rather Belichickian move, the Patriots used their highest draft choice on a Division II safety. Dugger should help both immediately and long term though. As a punt returner, he can slot in immediately, and with Chung and McCourty both turning 33 in August, they can groom their successor in the secondary.

Defensive line

Departed: Danny Shelton, Keionta Davis

Under contract: Lawrence Guy, Deatrich Wise Jr., Byron Cowart, John Simon, Adam Butler

Free agent addition: Beau Allen

Draft addition: None

Undrafted free agents: Bill Murray (no, not that one), Courtney Wallace Jr., Nick Coe, Trevon Hill

Out with Shelton, in with Allen. At two years and $7 million, the former Buccaneer actually got the most lucrative deal Belichick gave any out-of-town free agent this offseason.

Departed: Stephen Gostkowski

Under contract: Matthew Slater, Justin Bethel, Jake Bailey

Free agent addition: None

Draft addition: Justin Rohrwasser (5th)

With Gostkowski gone, Rohrwasser is a near certainty to be the starting kicker.

The coverage teams could be elite, as Slater, Bethel, and new safety Adrian Phillips have all been Pro Bowl special teamers.
