Collinsworth: ‘No question’ Mahomes’ contract will be largest in NFL history | KSHB

“There’s no question he’s going to be the highest-paid player in the history of the league …,” Collinsworth said of Mahomes. “If it comes in at anything less than $50 million (per year), I’d be really surprised.

Five most overhyped games on the NFL schedule | YardBarker

Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

A potential Super Bowl preview. Tom Brady going up against reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes at a venue that will host the annual event this coming February. There’s certainly a lot of stories behind the scenes here.

With that said, it’s going to be hyped way too much leading up to the Week 12 affair. Sure Brady has more talent around him in Tampa Bay than New England. The Buccaneers will be competitive. But in no way can this be seen as a potential Super Bowl preview until we actually get to watch Brady’s Buccaneers on the field. Until then, it’s nothing more than a nice game on paper.

Best and worst Sunday Night Football matchups on 2020 NFL schedule | Draft Kings

Best matchups

Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs

This one is cheating. It is officially a Sunday Night Football joint, but will be the kickoff game on September 10th, a Thursday night. The Texans will look for a little revenge after getting a 24-0 lead going into the second quarter and ultimately losing 51-31 to the Chiefs in AFC Divisional Round. Plus, we get Partick Mahomes vs Deshawn Watson again.

Ravens DL Broderick Washington Jr. Looking Forward To Facing Former Teammate Patrick Mahomes | Press Box

Mahomes, the 2018 NFL MVP and Super Bowl LIV MVP, was spectacular under Kingsbury at Tech from 2014-2016. In two-plus seasons as the starting quarterback, Mahomes threw for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns. Washington said Mahomes used to “torch” the Red Raiders’ defense in practice when the two were at Tech from 2015-2016.

“I knew that he was going to change the game pretty much when he got to the NFL just because of some of the things he did in practice,” Washington said. “The same things that y’all are seeing him do now, he’s been doing that. I saw it every day in practice. I knew he would change the game because nobody in the NFL is doing what he’s doing now, and now everybody’s trying to implement his game in their game a little bit now. It’s starting to change football, especially with quarterbacks.”

If we get a full season, there will be a lot of great football.

NFL Backup QB Power Rankings, from 1-32: Andy Dalton gives Cowboys elite option behind Dak Prescott | CBS Sports

11. Chiefs’ Chad Henne

This is less about Henne and more about Andy Reid. A year ago, Matt Moore wasn’t playing football until Henne suffered an injury in August and the Chiefs were forced to find a new backup on the eve of the season. Despite being out of football until August, Moore helped the Chiefs survive Patrick Mahomes’ knee injury by completing 65.6 percent of his passes, averaging 7.3 yards per attempt, throwing four touchdowns and no interceptions, and posting a 102 passer rating in three games. Henne isn’t more talented than the other quarterbacks listed before him, but he has the league’s best offensive coach on his side. That’s why he’s ranked this high. He’s good enough to do what Moore did a year ago.

The Best NFL Team at Every Position Entering 2020 | Bleacher Report

Wide Receiver: Kansas City Chiefs

Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson contributed 2,520 combined receiving yards last season.

Technically, tight end Travis Kelce is the team’s top target, but Kansas City’s standing as the top wide receiver corps is less about production and more about how each affects coverage.

Hill is the game’s premier vertical threat. No other receiver in the game can stack a defensive back and create deep separation better than the four-time Pro Bowl performer. Hill broke the Pro Football Focus record with 754 deep receiving yards during the 2019 campaign. He’s arguably the NFL’s fastest man, and the opposition must account for him at all times.

Saints cut Pro Bowl OL Larry Warford for cap relief | NFL.com

Warford earned a $750,000 roster bonus just this spring, but new contracts for quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill required financial relief, Rapoport added. New Orleans also prepared for possibly parting ways with Warford when it drafted guard Cesar Ruiz with the No. 24 overall pick in April’s draft.

Three years ago, the Saints signed Warford to a four-year, $34 million dolar deal. He rewarded them with three consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns. The eighth-year lineman has started all 101 games he’s played in for the Saints and Detroit Lions, which drafted him in the third round out of Kentucky in 2013.

Five Teams That Got Screwed by the 2020 NFL Schedule | SI

Houston Texans

Bill O’Brien has pulled his teams out of big holes before, but the beginning of their 2020 season is an absolute gauntlet: at Chiefs, Ravens, at Steelers, Vikings, Jaguars, at Titans, Packers. If things go horrifically wrong (and, given the team’s rocky offseason, would that be a surprise?) it wouldn’t be a total stunner to see Houston with only two or three wins heading into their Week 8 bye. A schedule realignment might help matters but Houston will also be battling a division that improved this offseason with the Colts adding Philip Rivers. Houston split the series with the Colts last year, with each game decided by three points. It’s difficult to argue that the Colts did not get demonstrably better this offseason, while the Texans have treaded water at best. At worst, they got rid of one of the best receivers of his generation.

NFL to end pass interference replay | Cincy Jungle (Bengals SB Nation Site)

In an effort to correct the missed call in the 2018 NFC Championship game, the NFL allowed pass interference to be reviewable in 2019.

However, the league seemed so unenthused over the new rule that pass interference calls were overturned less than 20 percent of the time. Furthermore, non-calls that should have been identified by review officials and that should have been reviewed never were.

Competition Committee Chairman Rich McKay announced that the NFL would end pass interference reviews.

“We’re not going to vote on, because nobody is putting forward, the OPI/DPI review again. So that dies a natural death,” McKay said.

Predicting the Chiefs’ final record for the 2020 NFL season

Week 12 – at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Nov. 29, 3:25 PM, CBS)

This may be the game I’m anticipating the most on the Chiefs’ schedule. I am very curious about how this experiment will work for the Buccaneers. It’s not like they sacrificed much for the future to get quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski — but they could be using these years to develop the next starter rather than a short-term solution.

I’m just throwing that out there, cause I do think it was a smart move by a franchise that hasn’t won anything in awhile. I think this will be the first of two matchups between these two teams — and Mahomes evens his record up with Brady at 2-2. WIN, 10-1.
