The UFC could be preparing for more offshore activity.

On May 19, the promotion’s parent company Zuffa, LLC filed for four trademarks related o the term “UFSEA.”

As first pointed out by Washington-based trademark attorney Josh Gerben, the language in one of the filings regarding “entertainment services,” “mixed martial arts competitions,” and “special events” is identical to an April 13 filing from Zuffa, LLC for “FIGHT ISLAND” trademarks.

The UFC has filed 4 new trademark applications for UFSEA.

The filings indicate an intent to use the UFSEA trademark in connection with mixed martial arts events and a clothing brand.

Under the Goods and Services section of the filing, the application reads as follows:

Entertainment services, namely, arranging and conducting mixed martial arts competitions and events; arranging and conducting special events for social entertainment purposes; entertainment services, namely, providing non-downloadable audio and video recordings featuring sports and mixed martial arts via the Internet, television, cable and satellite; entertainment services, namely, a multimedia program series featuring sports and mixed martial arts distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; educational services, namely, instruction in the field of fitness and mixed martial arts; providing instructional programs and classes in the fields of fitness and mixed martial arts; sports training services; physical fitness training and conditioning services; and providing information relating to entertainment, sports, mixed martial arts, and sporting events

Though it is unclear if the “UFSEA” and “FIGHT ISLAND” trademarks are related, there is also identical language in the May 19 and April 13 in filings for merchandise including apparel, promotional material, and towels.

During a segment on the May 17 episode of Last Week Tonight concerning the UFC’s return to action amid the coronavirus pandemic, host John Oliver jokingly suggested several names for the UFC’s proposed “Fight Island” events and “UFSea” was among them.
