Cam Newton’s contract situation with Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots has led to controversy in the NFL stratosphere. Bill Belichick’s side acquired free agent Newton on a minimal contract earlier this week. Newton will compete with Jarett Stidham for a starting berth after the departure of the legendary Tom Brady to Tampa Bay. The 2015 NFL MVP will be under tremendous pressure to prove a point to all his doubters this season. Will we see the old Cam Newton shine once again or is it going to be another injury-riddled season for the veteran quarterback?

Popular NFL talk show host Emmanuel Acho spoke about the Cam Newton contract situation. While appearing on the Speak For Yourself show along with Marcellus Willey, Acho said Cam absolutely needs to earn back his respect Marcellus but let me tell you why. In the NFL, my brother, respect, and money – they’re synonymous. So if you don’t have a big-time contract, you don’t have respect. In the NFL, the biggest love language is money. So Cam, if they don’t pay you, they don’t love you and if they don’t love you then they don’t respect you.”

Will Cam live up to expectations with the New England Patriots?

Acho further added that the former Carolina Panthers man needs to prove his haters wrong when given the opportunity to play this season. He said “Cam needs to earn back his respect because his respect has been lost. We don’t need to look any further than his paycheck. Out of the 32 teams in the NFL, only one wanted Cam Newton in the manner in which he wanted to be wanted where he could compete as a starter.”

“You’re not allowed to state a sentence about Cam Newton unless you start with ‘If Cam stays healthy’. So he has to earn back physical respect and the respect based around his ability.” The now 31-year old QB has been without a team since ending his contract with the Panthers in 2019. He is currently on a $1.75 million contract with New England Patriots which could rise to $7.5 million in added performance-related bonuses over the course of the season.
